General Information

This website attempts to provide as much information as possible about the Hocking Valley Railway.  The owner, Chris Burchett, does not claim to be an expert on HV matters (as he puts it, "I'm learning as much as anyone is."), which is why he asks for help so many times over.  Further, this website or its owner/maintainer does not have information about previous HV/C&O employees, so please do not ask about a relative from years ago.  We don't know either!  Try going to the Railroad Retirement Board website first; they'll be a better start than this website ever could be.

Additionally, this website is about the Hocking Valley Railway, not the Hocking Valley Scenic Railway.  It can't be estimated how many folks have requested information about the HVSR, located in Nelsonville, Ohio, on former HV trackage.  Luckily for these folks, Chris is a very active member (through various roles) of the HVSR, so folks have had questions, etc. cleared or redirected to those within the organization better equipped to answer the queries.  Also, this website does not provide information about the Hocking Valley region and the tourism of the area.  Please do not ask!

Finally, if you see anything erroneous or have something to contribute, please do not say, "That's incorrect" and leave it at that.  All you'll get back is a "thank you" with something to the effect of "what do you have that's different and how?"  Typically, the critic is never heard from again.  We need concrete facts to provide as detailed account as possible.  Do you realize how many colleges and universities access this website each month?  Many students and faculty members use this website for research papers and lectures, so facts, etc. are very important.

Your continued support of this website is invaluable.  This entire website is run by Chris more in memory of the men (and women) who helped make the Hocking Valley Railway a success so many years ago.  No profit is made from this website; it is entirely for the enjoyment of providing information about a rather large regional railroad that somehow got lost in time.  So thank you for your support through visits and word-of-mouth to others.
